This book is about a girl named Nicki. Nicki, her friend Brandon, and her two friends Chloe, and Zoe, work at an animal shelter called “Fuzzy Friends”. One day, they found a box of puppies and a full grown dog outside the building. The four friends have to take care of the dogs for an entire week and after Nicki had already promised to watch the dogs for the first night, her parents said no! How will Nicki be able to watch EIGHT dogs without her parents noticing?
I can relate to this book because I have a dog that I have to take care of and I know that it’s hard. However, I have a hard time taking care of ONE dog, I do not know how it could be possible to do that with EIGHT dogs, AND without your parents knowing! It is also relatable because, Nicki’s younger sister, Brianna, was also helping her, and Nicki had to set an example in order to show Brianna the proper way to care for her animals.
I think everyone can relate in a way because everybody has friends that they want to be happy. Nicki had to satisfy her friends by pitching in and watching the dogs for a night. If she didn’t do that, her friends would feel that she didn’t do anything, or that she didn’t care!
The author, Rachel Renee Russell, was born on March 13, 1959 in Michigan, making her 56 years old. The author’s books are based on her two daughter’s middle school experiences. Her daughter’s names are Nikki and Erin. Her older daughter Erin, helps with the writing and her younger daughter, Nikki, helps with the illustration.
This book reminds me of the, “Dear Dumb Diary” series because, they are both about a girl trying to survive middle school with her bestest friends. They both run into trouble along the way, and try to get themselves out of it. I think this book was a great book and I hope you read it too!
